The spusu HANDBALL LIGA AUSTRIA is the association of the 20 best men’s handball clubs in Austria. The spusu LIGA is the highest league in handball in Austria, while the spusu CHALLENGE is the second-highest league. In close cooperation with the Austrian Handball Federation, the LIGEN board, and the 20 clubs in the two highest divisions of men’s handball, the main goal of spusu HANDBALL LIGA AUSTRIA is to market the two leagues and their clubs. Handball Liga Austria was founded in 1998. Nationwide 10 clubs play in the spusu LIGA and 10 clubs play in the spusu CHALLENGE. The spusu LIGA is the highest league in handball in Austria, while the spusu CHALLENGE is the second-highest league.

THE HISTORY OF SPUSU.

In close cooperation with the Austrian Handball Federation, the LIGEN board, and the 20 clubs in the two highest divisions of men’s handball, the main goal of spusu HANDBALL LIGA AUSTRIA is to market the two leagues and their clubs. Thomas Berger and his team have been working with great success on the further development of handball in Austria since 2016. The focus is on the following pillars: positioning, product design, sponsorship, network, communication, events & structures.

In 2017, after many years, they succeeded in winning the mobile phone provider spusu as the main sponsor for the highest league in domestic men’s handball and even extended the sponsorship commitment to the second league. In addition, a data partnership with Sportradar and a ticketing partnership with Ticketmaster were implemented together with the 20 clubs of the spusu LIGA and spusu CHALLENGE. In the meantime, the number of live broadcasts has been steadily increased.

More than 70 live matches were presented in cooperation with LAOLA1 and ORF throughout the season. Spusu Business Club, spusu LIGA ALL-STAR GAME, and other platforms were created in and outside the sports halls for all participants to support the leagues with concentrated passion. The success story of the spusu LIGEN caused a sensation far beyond the borders of the sport. The current campaign slogan: concentrated passion encompasses the 7 principles of the spusu HANDBALL LIGA AUSTRIA: Emotion, Toughness, Dynamism, Sustainability, Youth, Team Spirit & Integrity.

THE MISSION.

The mission of the spusu LIGA is to make clear that handball is an emotional sport after all – for players, coaches, referees, sponsors, and media, for the clubs, and above all for the fans. Emotions and enthusiasm are the soul of the sport – and therefore also the core of the spusu LIGA. Handball is often seen as a tough but at the same time fair sport. Toughness is defined with athleticism and speed on the pitch and overall interpreted with willpower and perseverance to achieve common goals.

Dynamism is also what drives spusu LIGA’s success. They adapt, react quickly, and take on new challenges with a goal-oriented attitude. But what makes them unique is their committed attitude to sustainability. For them, sustainability takes precedence over development as a continuous process. For them, standing still means taking a step backward. They firmly believe in being successful because all clubs actively support this development and thus ensure sustainability.

The spusu LIGA and its clubs see themselves as pioneers in performance-oriented youth development. They focus primarily on training players for the spusu LIGEN and the national teams. Emotion is a fundamental value for them; team spirit is a core value, a driving force for the cooperation of spusu LIGA & spusu CHALLENGE.

All in all, in everything they do, they promote and base their actions on the principles of sportsmanship, credibility, awareness, responsibility, and prevention and demand the above-mentioned core values of integrity in sport not only from themselves but also from their members.

WORKING WITH NDA.

Our cooperation aimed to develop a holistic advertising and marketing strategy for the entire Handball League, for “spusu LIGA” and “spusu CHALLENGE”. Our common goal was to synchronize the activities of all clubs in order to increase the overall value of the league in terms of media activities, which play an essential role.

By integrating Google Ad Manager, spusu LIGA was able to make the most of its advertising budget and increase advertising revenue. To keep spusu LIGA at the top of potentially interested audiences, we also helped spusu LIGA use remarketing on Google Display Network to maximize the impact of the right ad at the right time. Our team also helped spusu LIGA increase awareness and build a strong relationship with potential customers/clients through social media management. In addition, spusu LIGA was able to use social media advertising to move forward and measure their results in terms of leads generated and sales. Both social media management and advertising are cost-effective and will indeed develop stronger relationships with potential audiences.
